We will be short on a podcast this week due to the 4th of July weekend madness that has passed us by, but between your cleanup of fireworks and dumping out the barbequed leftovers please take a minute to take this short 6 question survey about the Web Hosting Show.
Any and all feedback is appreciated and you know I am all about making you all happy so if there is something you like, hate or would love to hear about let me know.
If you have ever wanted to share your opinion to me about what I do this would be the time to do it. Also happy post 4th of July to all of you and thanks in advance!
Simply Noise is here to fill the void, fill it with a lot of white noise! So what exactly is white noise and why might you need it? According to Wikipedia white noise is…
White noise is a random signal (or process) with a flat power spectral density. In other words, the signal’s power spectral density has equal power in any band, at any centre frequency, having a given bandwidth. White noise is considered analogous to white light which contains all frequencies.
So that answers the what, now how about the why? Here are some of the uses for white noise that are out there:
Aid Sleep
Enhance Privacy
Block Distractions
Mask Tinnitus
Configure Audio Equipment
Soothe Migraines
Getting back to the web site, Simply Noise - all it does is give you an orb to slide back and forth to increase or decrease the white noise they provide. What exactly is the noise they use? Think of it as the static sound you here when there is a TV channel not coming in clearly. All in all - this site does the job in a very simple way. Maybe in the future they can have the white noise come up via a popup window? That way if I needed it I could have it loaded up without having to keep the URL open 24/7.
This is one of those programs you just happen to stumble upon but you know you have to at least give it a shot. Mario Paint Composer allows you to create your own Nintendo inspired tune using the old SNES Mario Paint-ish layout. Even if you don’t have a musical skill in your entire body, it is fun just to drag and drop things onto the board and then hit play.
It is both Mac and Windows friendly too. Just download, unzip and you’ll be off on your own music creating adventure. Here is an example video I found via the ‘ol YouTube:
As I mentioned yesterday, Plurk is quickly becoming my favorite miro-blogging/status provider out there. It is unique, creative and doesn’t go down every few hours (hear that Twitter?). How would you like to be able to keep up with your plurking in your Firefox sidebar? Here is how you can get it done.
Bookmark it (or drag and drop it onto your links bar). Then right-click it, and select “Properties”. From here, check the box next to “Load this bookmark in the sidebar”, then save your changes and you are done.
Now you have instant Plurk access no matter what web page you might be on.
Need a friend on Plurk? Feel free to add me! I feel like you all are nearly family anyways!
Thanks to Ping.fm I can finally be apart of more of these social sites without jumping here and there every time I want to update something. The best way to describe it is that it is a tool that just brings it all together. You can do status updates, blog updates, or micro-blog updates depending on the tools you are using it with.
Of course I’m not just looking for multiple avenues to plug and market myself, I’ve also been just sharing random Mitch-like nuggets of wisdom and random things that pop into my head that I just need to get out during the day.
Ping.fm is my new best friend on this social Web we live on today.
